There is a total and utter lack of anything even slightly worthwhile to say at the moment and this is due almost entirly to lack of anything interesting to say it about

Yeah, I mean "big shock" next winter we may all die of bird flu (I'm sure that there is a pun there) but like so what. I'm kinda looking forward to it in case it rubbs out some people I feel have it coming anyway... of course you know thaat by hoping this it is no much less likely to happen... or maybe this will be the one time it does... will I feel bad or pleased if it does?

Now there is a question - we all know if some-one we love,like or admire died of bird flu' we would be upset. But what if some-one we really dislike died, some-one we hated and hoped would die. Would you find yourself feeling guilty for wishing they were dead or would you smilie and make a crass joke about it before forgetting they ever existed?

I know that right now I think I'd laugh and be pleased but when it happens when that person or persons that I feel deserve a massive slapping bit the big one will I feel guilt?

I say "no" but that doesn't make it any more true...

It's a doozy of a question.

Why is this so important

Regardless of if it is true or not these people claim to have the technology to undermine anto blog comment flooding and are targetting blogger users (us, you, everyone) - they charge around $60 for this service which they claim they ahve copyright (...not patent[!?]) on.

What can you do?

Email Network Solutions and tell them you want the site taken down
Go to the Imprimatur site and show your support by commenting
email the site directly and ask them not to (what it might work)
Realise that http://webstars2k.blogspot.com/ is the url to thier blog and... ignore it? (spamming blogs in vengence is wrong children)
email your ISP and ask them to black list the URLs invloved
email Google and ask very nicely to have the sites blacklisted
email Blogger and tell them about it
If you are a webmaster quest user complain (they advertise the service)
Make a blog post and point it at here or imp' or any other blog talking about this attack - tell the world how evil these people are
Boycot Network solutions and black list them if they do not back us

For those of you who have living under a rock for like the last year here is the Voices of Masada big update: Eddy has quit the band!

Yeah! I know! Tell me about it.... I went up to see them play along with Devilish Presly at "on the rocks" in some arse part of London.

The guitar parts have had to be rearranged so the tinckly bits are now taken by the mighty skill of Rob while the easy bits are left to the backing track. Not exactly the recipie for an amazing gig you might think but you'd be wrong.

I had placed myself at the sweet spot - centered between the main speaker stacks and just far enough back to get the full impact. It was BLOODY amazing!

t'was so good infact that I might have to say it was the best gig I have EVER been to. It totally ruled. There was a poundingly good bass solo and with Rob well and truely god of the guitar section I noticed that they have some increadable solo's written for one or two of the songs.

How the hell has bad sound guys and lesser stadiums conspired to hide those gems all this time?

A-ha! you thought I was going to blame the recently departed member but that'd be silly. not only have they created new arrangments for the older stuff but they seem to have nuckeled down to being very cool.

Someone found the gage marked "Frickin' X-elent" and turned it all the way up to 11.

Perfect Gig... untill disaster struck.

Once again words transcend their mundane origins, particularly, 'Haven't I seen this place somewhere?' which Raymon sings with the intensity of Ian Curtis. In a break there's some sampled voices, followed by what sounds like an explosion. It's too low in the mix to understand what has been said, or what has exploded, but it adds intrigue to the song. NICK CAVE

I have always felt there was a some-what mystical and almost religious quality in the nature of a number Nick Caves lyrics. Almost as if the singer were coming to terms with something.

Nick Cave: : "Happy songs, which simplify love, make me furious. They are all false. They deny peoples right to be sad and dreary. That is not what life really is."

However, when I mentioned my thoughts in conjunction with "The Weeping Song" I was met with very strange looks and generally dismissed.

Knowing next to nothing about Nick Cave (other than the songs I have listened to) I set out to see for myself.

I soon found a page with a cheesy headline: NICK CAVES IN TO RELIGION

Cave says, "One of the things that I guess excites me about belief in God is the notion that it is unbelievable, irrational and sometimes absurd."

Thinking about it it should not be seen as strange that an artist of any calibre explore life and existence through imagination and "mystical" rather than logical thought.

I searched on and found another article that can be read in full here.

Nick Cave: Songs & Visions 2: "In the teens I embraced all the great Russians, Dostjevskij, Tolstoy and those boys. It was heavy. Compared to them everything else was down hill. But then I stumbled over Faulkner. To me his books deal mainly about language. About how wonderful language can be. My favorite is 'As I Lay Dying'. What a story! I got a new literary wind in my back with the southern poets. Flannery O'Connor is also a major favorite. And the Bible too. I read it all the time."

In the interview he talks about his influence on his song writing and his feelings about music art and "The Gates of Heaven".

INTERVIEW: How about your attempts to enter the gate of Heaven?
CAVE: I have always been interested in religious questions. Religion has influenced me my whole life. It's clearer to me now what I believe in. The pieces are falling into places. Though, not organized religion. I don't care to place my ideas into a system. I change all the time and have no interest to be locked into some particular way of believing.

Now before his one time goth fans go bin their Nick Cave CDs go read the interview yourself. While he says a lot that would make the happy-clappy-born-agains very happy he says much that'd have him marked as a heretic. It's an interesting dichotomy.

INTERVIEW: You have written a very enthusiastic preface to The Gospel of Mark...
CAVE: If you read the gospel you would understand. It has inspired me more than anything else. It has everything."

So what of this influence on his art and on his music (and his novel)?

Nick Cave: : "INTERVIEW: Where do you believe the creative powers are coming from?
CAVE: I know where. They come from God."

The rest of the band were on form as well. Danny, Rob and Eddie kept the rumbling melodies rolling along like a Wagnerian thunderstorm. Eddie in particular has to be mentioned in dispatches. He had recently invented a new fencing technique, which involved running into the sword until it breaks on your shoulder blade, and his doctor had advised him to sit down and take it easy. Instead, however he was on stage playing with Voices. But at least he had been provided with a seat so that his damaged arm and heavy guitar could rest upon his knee.well that was the theory at least. The trouble is that after he broke a string and Daevid loaned him his silver SG, the rhythm took over him and he starts to stand up and rock like a bastard. What a star (but I bet he was in pain the next day!).

The one thing that I have yet to cover is the impressive fact that Eddie was actually at the gig.

No I don't mean that it was strange for him to turn up. I mean that he made a massive effort to do so.

You see in the days before he smashed his shoulder badly and should have really not been there at all.

Comparing war wounds with him backstage before the gig I got the impression that this hurt more than anything else in his life. This I can well believe as any major limb joint injury can cripple even the most determined person. It can also put a downer on the things one can do... after hours... so Eddie has my sympathies. (Even if I did try to show I had been the most injured ever and was some-what unsympathetic on the night.)

Word is that Eddie was in agony after the gig and I'm not surprised. His shoulder is going to cainning like a beast even now; at a guess.

Continuing what we all hope to be a long series of articles on the subject of Voice of Masada - todays post brings you two more gig photos from the Velvet Crypt episode of last weekend.

These images star Danny doing his thing as bassist for the band.

Often known for looking at his shoes whilst concentrating this particular member suffers from some very bad photographic karma. The aim of the day was, therefore, to reverse this very bad luck and take some good photo's of the lad.

The gig offered a very good opportunity for this as Danny had the lions share of the stage to move about in and the build to pull-off some impressive poses.

At one point I went back stage to take photo's from a vantage point not often enjoyed by the regular viewing public.

The really unfortunate thing about the gig was the lack of clarity the trainee on sound gave to Danny's sound. This is particularly unfortunate as any fan will be aware of several great key moments carried mainly by the base-line which were almost entirely lost

On the plus side it is a tribute to the band that they were able to apply their own equipment so well in overcoming the evenings short comings.

I had a chance to chat to Danny during the course of the evening and he assured me that there will be a t-shirt (kinda soonish maybe) and that much of the artwork has already been done for it (hurrah!).

For all you information hungry folks out there who want to know more about this "secret sex cymbal" you can read plenty more by the proper use of the search engine called Google and I have no intention of re-hashing things said about him a hundred time already.

Voices Review (part 1)

After much talk and a long wait Voices of Masada (VoM) finally played a Kent gig.

Aside from one rather unwell individual all known VoM fans in Kent were in attendance (so-called "Kent-Crew" is simply a loose grouping that is easily identifiable as being "the one's from Kent"). That's not really saying much as almost all Kent Fans of VoM, until last night were friends of the band.

The Event took place in the much mentioned and oddly undocumented "Velvet Crypt" which, it transpires, is an event put on by Raven Promotions.

Supporting Voices were Rome Burns (a band well known for being down to earth people that are actually quite likable). It's not the first time the Rome Burns have played a set with Voices of Masada and they were on good form although the sound mix was not.

To be honest the sound mix was a bodge and the word was the guy on sound was a stand in. It did not make for good listening but one purchased CD later and I was sure that they were actually a good band after all.

Voices of Masada were sporting a new CD (a full album this time) and new rumours that they might even produce a t-shirt before all of Eddies hair falls out with all that bleaching.

The surprise of the night was that Eddie played the gig at all. It transpires that he had smashed his collar bone in a typically Eddie fashion as was now suffering for it.

We had expected Eddie to sit on a chair or other perch and take it easy but the famous Eddie Ego won out and the last word was he was regretting it somewhat.

It certainly wouldn't have been the same without his blondness playing live with the band and it was to his credit that he even attempted to play.

While the mix was not perfect for Voices it was a hell of a lot better than the mix that RBs got and the usual ministrations of three very fussy musicians meant that even a dead monkey would have had a hard time making them sound crap.

Ray worked the crowd well and danced the razor bladed edge that is engaging with a group of hecklers. The night ran well and at 1am when the venue closed there was still a reasonable number of goths about which given the under par turn out indicates to me that D the door dude was right when he said it was the Hard-Core goth backbone that turned up.

If that is the case then Kent can look forward to VoM packing goth venues on a regular bases for as long as the band stays together.

This is a picture of the band (Voices of Masada who else do I go on about so much? in fact who else who posts here goes on as much as me?) that I downloaded from their website. It's obviously set up and it's something all bands seem to have to do when setting up a web site.

So let us get down to the far more interesting topic of background info on the guys: From right to left we have: Danny, Eddy, Ray (aka sinbad), Rob & the invisible man half out of shot.

Danny and Rob are rumoured to be the brains of the bunch (but I wouldn't possibly print anything that might show "inside" info) while Eddy and Ray are usually credited with being the "pretty boys". This is patently untrue as Guitarist Rob draws more than enough attention all on his own.

Rumours are rife at the moment of tensions within the band and I can officially tell you that: this happens in all bands - duh!

I've known Rob and Eddy the longest and on a more straight talking note they are both really great guys (who now owe me an extra pint - just kidding). Both have excessive talent with the ol' guitar that is clearly unfair and borders on some really posh words at times.

Ray is clearly there for his looks - I mean it couldn't be because of his vocal abilities... oh heck he's the singer so maybe it could be.

By and large the ladies still swoon most for Eddy although for the main part I can't figure out why.

Maybe I'll ask the lads to own up to who has the biggest ego but don't be surprised if there is an answer

so now you know little more than when you started but I had fun dropping hints, names and all attempt a grammar. Time now for your views.

Voice of Masada are due to play at the Velvet Crypt in Westgate-on-sea on 11th Dec 2004.

The Velvet crypt is a strict Dark / Alt dress code venue with an 18+ Late Licence (1pm). The venue is rumered to have real ghosts as well as a few freaky customers. The building itself is certainly old enough and is partually set into it's chalky surrounds.

Westgate (for those who don't yet know) is near Margate and is therefore in Thanet. (duh).

Bands pritty much only get into this venue if they gain the good grace of the all powerfull Gaby of Raven Promotions and given that rumer has it they turned down an offer to play and that this is a second offer they have either sold thier souls or impressed the socks off of her. (there are other posiibilities but they are highly organic and would leave a nasty visual image).

Goth as we know it today was born at the end of the punk era in a small part of London that had previously sporned the Punk rock movement. Many trad goths still dance the way those early proto-goths did (these guys danced like that because of structural limits in the night club in question). The birth happened when the media used the term Goth. It caught and became a name for something that was un-named.

For this reason we have the goth "fashion" of calling oneself not-a-goth and generally denying any goth connection. It was has been and always shall be a media label.

At this stage there was no difference between punk, goth, (new romantics (UK) and Beatniks (us) were still getting going). These new youths now called goths were effectively second and third gen punk. As with all true art movements the lines are never truly defined and the edges blur easily. Thus we add to the mix:

Beatnik, New Romantic, Teddy Boys, n-th gen hippie, Religious imagery, Wild West (Field of the nephilim), Third and forth gen punk, Mods (of mods and rockers fame), pop-rock, fetish, BDSM, Retro Fashion, The Retrospectives (Victorian Obsessed types), Body pop, Heavy metal, EBM, Dance & House etc, Dark Metal, Death Metal, Shock Rock, media stereotypes, culture stereotypes, inter-culture bickering, labelling, misunderstanding and self analysis.

and then stir it up with a sprinkle of: trying to figure it all out.

Every time some-one tried to sort it all out they muddy the waters further and add new ideas to the mix. Effectively if you name it so then it becomes so.

This is further exacerbated by Alchemy Gothic, Black Rose ltd, Gothic Martha Stewart and the likes.

Then you get Whitby and Gotham Festivals held in the UK that further re-enforce the first gen fiction. The first generation goth is in fact a lie call it Goth.Generation(1.5) if you like (as some do) and place it just before 2nd generation up to third and this is what "trad goth" is (or is now). Does that make it wrong? No, it makes it changes nothing but it would be foolish to point to the new trad goth and call them first gen.

In the evolutionary pool of alt.culture True First Gen goths would be totally unrecognisable do to almost total lack of black.

What we as the sub-cultures analysts need is an agreed word (invented perhaps) that identifies what we have tried to call goth.

In other news I want to tell you when the new album will be out but Rob might not forgive me if I broke confidence so... bollocks it might happen this year all things being equal. I hope that doesn't break any confidences.

"Soon" - That's the official time scale and it's fairly accurate too!

For the next months Voices will be gigging every other weekend and it seem they will be for the foreseeable future. This makes getting together with the guitarist for beer a bastard but needs must as the devil drives.

Voices of Masada - analytical review!

I was very shocked to come upon a well thought out review of the band that came from a writer who clearly had a depth of expirence to draw on. The first thing that supprised me was it didn't open with "I went to this gig and..." nor did it repeat the press release sample listing (again) who is in the band and what they had done before (which just shows lack of effert) but instead makes use of the brain (oft' forgotten organ these days). The result, while not full of praise, did produce a tone of appriciation and understanding.

I felt I couldn't disagree while I didn't want to agree either. The result is that I simply quoted the review here and readers can make up their own mind.

This is a fine debut of a fledgling London band, bringing to us three tracks of late 80's inspired trad Goth Rock, which is all fine and dandy, if you like that sort of thing. And no, obviously they don't sound that old, in tone, but they do seem far too cautious. They're in that sub-faces Faces Of Sarah vein, with plenty of quality, a little dash of style, but not as much blatant power as there should be, it's all just a little formal.
They do have all the requisite musical accomplishments, and a particularly fine singer, so there's nothing wrong on those fronts, but by three songs you do almost second-guess how things will progress, and you're not wrong. Or I'm not, but you can pay along too.
'Flight' is a classic example where a song which is just too nice could have been better because when the guitar starts getting frisky it does sound exciting, and you'll certainly believe the programming is actual drums. Instead we see them rely on the time-honoured trick of dropping the music back down to basics midway and then building pleasantly once more. 'Fragments' is similarly restrained, but the key to their future development is how the dramatic vocal story is well delineated and the long mild passage here, which would have worked better on an album, is definitely attractive.
The zigzagging guitar and serious bass (good throughout) makes 'Fallen' seem slightly wilder but when the vocals come in, you know they're coming, and they just do what you expect, which is a shame. It's too much like they have a book of Functional And Successful Goth Songwriting laid out before them.
As a debut it is more then encouraging, but they really need to let rip when they get to that album.

Remember the gig opened by Voices of Masada followed by Rome Burns and Corrision Headlined by The Faces of Sarah? I don't but then I can't get to many live events Coz I'm a sad hard working sap! But this is the impact that gig had on the WWW:

VOM 27-09-03: "Voices of Masada where the first band on stage on the night. With a sound reminiscent of Descendents of Cain, with striking vocals. They opened with a song called Flight then Vathek, Fallen, Fragments and finally Step Down. I really want to see Voices of Masada again, they have really grown on me."

Rated: "A creditable 7/10" by this reviewer, includes gig photos of the band.

What ever else that can be said about this reviewer she at least took the time to learn the names of all four members of the band!

cd review - A Review of Voices of Masada

cd review: "On Prelude we find three songs which is a bit short to judge a band.
This quartet brings beautiful gothic ballads with rock elements. The
first track, Flight, will seduce many people because of its eighties
touch. It really makes me think of ballads by gothic bands of more than
ten years ago like Love Like Blood and such. Fragments continues in the
same line and is the longest track on the disc. Dark vocals are combined
with dreamy melodies and guitar parts that evolve from calm and peaceful
to more powerful without loosing the rhythm of the ballad. Fallen has
more tempo end ends the short CD in a good way. "

Now that the reptile house is fresh and clean after it's recent cleansing it was time for some technical changes!!

First up writers for this blog no longer have to use work-arounds for bad HTML.

Next the page should load somewhat faster due to some cleaver CSS tricks.

Oh yeah and some funky graphics got in too.

What the Reptile House had become was totally amoral. It was a poor representation, a total canker and an insult to everything it stood for: Goth, Freedom, Art and even God himself. Bible verses were used like so much other ammunition and now it is gone - burned in the all consuming fire of destruction.

This is a new chapter for the reptile house. It has been purged of the feted, putrefying flesh that has so damaged it's soul in recent months. That which offended and drove away both member and reader alike.

Do these people really think that you can ascribe to a fasion that started in the mid 80's in London England the status of hell worthy tesspass or all defining lifestyle? I have yet to meat two people who define goth the same way. The term only ever came into existance because the media put it there in the first place. Goth is within cetain indefinable boundries and ranged within a certain scope an experimentalist and exploritory culter that examines the darker and moodier parts of life that the main stream refuses to address. It has always been something for the individulistic and a rough umberlla term at best. Over time certain symbles have become popular within the goth communities dispite the great differences between these communities. This symbles have become iconic and easy to recognise and even as they have done so they are regected by goths as pase, pretentious or even mockable. This is when others take up the icons and can at last form a charicature of the goth sterotypes. To say that you understand goth via that is like saying you understand God because you've met the local vicar in the pub once.

The media is keen to label everything in neat boxes. so what happens when they see people with icons they assosiate with goth?

So if the pool of dark clad local alternative rock fans calls itself goth does that make it the truth?

Goth has no real cread because there is no such thing as the corporate-goth direction, becasue it has no direction. What it does have is lots of individules acting out a form of social browninan motion. the result is movement no one can control.

Right now "goth" is bloating on all the slipnot, manson, corn and skata rock being knocked out by the media. The result is worse confusion than ever.

Worse as Goth is not international each "pool" of black clad "goth" is nothing like the next. Go to holland and the goths ware Pink and bright green and listen to EBM and thrash metal. Go to germany and the goths listen to death-metal and have a tendency towards army serplas. Go to belgum and goth is ultra underground in the main. Keeping looking arround and in that area you will find goth that is like a chilled out slightly anarchic black-hippy movment. Go to the UK where goth was born and this all mixes as the word on the vine is that THE goth club to go to is slimelights in london, here revellers from all over the world tend to do speed to stay up untill the club closes (it closes when the last goth exits the building at about 7:30am).

But also visit Gosips on traditional night and everything changes again. On the whole the UK has two types of goth Old school and new. Old school or traditinal goths are the original 1980's goths and have a tendency toward a commanding presence.

The new wave goths are still experimenting and discovering what they like. It is totally different to old school to the point that nothing is the same.

Visit the fetish scene and you will find more goths of a totally different nature - they will look unlike any of the other goths you have met.

Now visit the US. 99.9% of goths in the us have no idea what they are talking about. There is no Old school because the new romatics and (art) punk never married up out there because this was a purely British phinomina. The teddy boys happened and again a small ammount infused into British Goth. by the time Sisters of mercy and Cure were doing the scene it was already well astablished. It was a Punks, Goths and other art students multi-cultural event even the hippies were joining in.

In the US the goths formed from Death metal, hard punk, heavy rock and the steriotypes the brits were sending over. goth is a vauge concept that the Britsh media tried to put on a music and artisic revelution started by punk. Everything else is aftershock. You will notice as you examine the origines of punk that classic and untra-retro clothes were the norm and this developed into a new experiment - edwardian and victorian dress codes. Goth, therefore is a unequly british export. To understand goth is to understand britsh art culture of the 80's and early 90's and more importantly to know intimatly the university city that's took part such as London, Birmingham and Notingham.

It was the british post-punk inovators that were first called gothic and it is they that uniquly formed it. Everything else in every other country is only goth-influenced heavy metal and rock.

Even more devistating for those who wish to build there lives with goth as the foundation is that it is only a by-product of an existing musical experimentation going on since the blues became a popular art form.

Some people may have notice a little war going on.

An interesting discovery that might offend the more puerile visitors (who aim to offend members and readers alike) is simply this: the entire exercise seems to have imbibed me with a new joie de vivre which was previously missing.

Also I notice that the amateurish and coarse attempts at developing a community from the homemade forum ("out-of-the-box job") and the equally flakey technical skills of the users we have spoken about (here) points in part to an emotional substrate of society - the lower teen bracket.

The esculence of my utterings for these unfledged explorers being questioned of late has forced me to examine again the entire affair and wonder if the disclaimers were properly read or if (in point of fact) there simple needs to be an enhancement of teaching as to the nature of blogs, blogging, On-line journaling and the like.

As many seasoned blogger are aware blogs have become the place to put your rants, opinions and other thoughts. they can also be guides, reviews or even story telling methods. Hell you could bend one to be a small forum with the right skills. Above all a blog is a place for personal expression whatever form that might take.

Let us open by savaging the last post I read at this dudes website

The poor lad does not know the difference between a trackback ping and an email. Perhaps it is unfair of me to engage with this guy in an exchange of words after all the most I could hope to do is crush some poor sods spirit. This coquetting and some what superficial "blog" is nothing more than a cry for help, an indication of the deep need for recognition, respect or even friendship. I would be a cad to attack a guy when he is down and a fool to think he would take the hand of friendship if offered by any member of this merry band of bloggers. So perhaps I should simply stop verbally raping his self image despite:

What are we anyway? It seems we are just so many of the bullied kids from different schools doing what was done to us before it happens again. We are doing to ourselves what our tormentors did to us and yet so many of us realise the truth in the proverb:

We think we are growing up - but we are not. We think we are become wise - But we are still fools. We feel we have become death the destroyer of worlds - but we are all just dust in the breeze.

We write our "revelations" on the nature of man and woman as if we are the first to think of them and yet we are doing what a thousand have done before us. When the realisation finally dawns that we have nothing new to add to the tomb of human knowledge the sense of mystical saint hood fades and where once we had told ourselves of our wisdom, insight and open minded enlightenment we finally reach the foothills of reality.

It is always a shock to discover that we are not reaching for the crest of the hill but are merely at the base a mountain. For the world is not hollow and you have not even seen the sky.

We like so many before us try to transcend the triviality of life and seek something better, something beyond. In truth we seek definition and when at last we have everything we strived for we discover our world is hollow and we have indeed touched the sky - the sky is cold and our riches are but lifeless trinkets evidence that our wisest sayings are nothing but callow utterances.

This is the current position of the young man who as yet cannot comprehend how a stranger so totally deemed as nothing can never-the-less shake his world and shock his most sensitive beliefs - the belief in the total rightness of his life.

Where does this concocted sense of self-righteousness come from? It comes from the heart.

At some time between the onset of puberty and now: the outcast starts to realise nobody much likes him (or her). Sometimes it is because they are smarter, taller, fatter or slower than the popular kids but the effect is the same. Bullied at school! Tormented endlessly as self-important, self-appointed judges condemn you and whip the crowed on to more of the same until it becomes the normal mode of life.

Sometimes we have embraced a dark clothed sub-culture and called ourselves goths at the very centre of this hell standing up and saying "fuck-you buddy" right there in the face of it. This type of person is usually acting self destructively in an unknowing effort to prove the tormentors correct. Sometimes a strong person of this type is actually growing to the point that the opinions of the popular kids is irrelevant or even less then the tormented kid's. They are going down fighting. But those of us who do are still fighting those battles years after the other kids have forgotten our names. Every last insult is like a poisoned tipped arrow and it is still in your flesh. Only the tormented kid can remove his own arrow tips.

For others, though, the change comes later when something finally snaps - the poison arrows or the torment given has worked it's evil magic. This snapping is the last vestige of hope that they might be accepted and be popular. Perhaps they are dumped or maybe they just get beaten up one too many times. The story is the same only the faces change.

In this hopelessness something dies and it is not without reason that the proverb says:

"a hope deferred makes the heart sick". --(Proverbs 13:12)

At the point of total hopelessness a new light dawns and the victim asks "why me?" and the remaining vanity says "it's not fair, I deserve better than this" - The conscious utterance of this is: "I am not going to be treated like this any more". One of two things will happen:

1. The bullied becomes the bully throwing words around and making appeals to force to "control" those that would threaten the glass world and hitting back first at the world at general. The result of this randomly focus rage is the pointlessness that this blog has been witness to of late. You will notice that with this come the blaming others for the persons world. the new bully surrounds themselves with a large crowd of people who support and endorsed their new behaviour. They become the crowd of "popular kids" all the time blaming the world for the things that have happened to them.

2. The more moderate result is to simply locate a group that will not judge or might even accept and approve of the person without the need for them to change.

Whatever the out come when it happens to one of us the results are still the same. The pain and fear don't go anywhere although they may become numb for a while. It is always other peoples fault because it is too much to bear to look to ourselves for change - we fear that we might truly find that we do "suck" after all.

In bulk this is a US / UK divide with the "goth scene" in the US conforming to pattern one while the UK tends toward pattern two. That said the worthless and concocted mansonit/satanist/hate-munger group who follow pattern one do nothing to alleviate the problems with the media. As readers will be aware I have a strong aversion to the ostentatious and vainglorious prating and preening of those in the alternative culture who call themselves goth and worship marilyn manson and other overblown, insincere idiot bands that call themselves goth-satanist-heavy-metal gods. These bogus leaders demonstrate a trite and tested method of hollow and insincere mock rebellion.

Their followers all acting in much the same way claim to be individuals and free minded which is the great irony of it all. May personal gripe is these egotistical and haughty bands and their clone-like supporters then call themselves goths, these goths then act with total disregard for society often spouting extreme anarchistic dogma. The result of all this rage is then focus indiscriminately and the result is that all goths are hounded by the media as dangerous out of control devil worshipping mass murderers. Just read what was said after the Columbine incident.

The truth is these people are Dark-Punk / Nu-Punk or perhaps thrash-metal / death-metal followers all of which (but especially punk) are musical rebellion, often anarchic and express rage, and frustration. Goth on the other hand has mostly been about artistic rebellion a rather more introspective and moody discipline.

Let us not live our lives by the uttering of some pompous and overblown egotists who, after all, are only performance artists for whom life is a stage and the slick veneer just a front for a counterfeit revolution. They promise much but have not the power to deliver even the smallest meaning, hope or value to your life.

The Greeks called in a fallacy of logic to say that there are only two possible options. A whole spectrum of options exist but how much are you willing to face?
